Ricardo Miguel Moreira da Costa, better known by the name of Ricardo Costa is a Portuguese footballer who was born on May 16, 1981 in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal and played as a central defender for the national team of Portugal and in the club where he played.
Costa is a product of Boavista FC juniors and then moved to FC Porto when he was still an apprentice. He made his first debut in 2002 when derby against Boavista, but he's only as a reserve player. In July 2007 was the first opportunity came when he joined the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg with a three-year contract. Costa became a starter and helped the club reach the UEFA Cup at the end of the competition. In the summer of 2009, Costa will be moved to one of the clubs in Spain with Zaragoza but the transfer can not be completed because there was no agreement. Furthermore, on July 29, 2009 he returned to Wolfsburg and the new date of January 28, 2010 Costa transferred to OSC Lille in France although he still used in Wolfsburg. After Costa helped Lille to rank fourth in the league, then he moved back to La Liga Valencia CF along with the contract for four years.
On March 9, 2011, he scored his first goal with Valencia and put the club's defeat against FC Schalke 04 in UEFA Champions League for the last 16.
Costa played for the national team in Portugal at U-21 level and become part of the Olympic team in Athens 2004. Since 2005 he was called into the first team squad for the FIFA World Cup 2006 and he began to play against Germany and managed to occupy the third rank. On May 10, 2010, Costa entered while in the 24-man Portugal squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and he played in the preliminary round against Brazil and in the last 16 when it lost to Spain where he became a substitute in the last minute.
