Stephen Johannes 'Stijn' Schaars or known by the name of Stijn Schaars is a Dutch footballer who plays as a midfielder and was born in Gendt, Netherlands on January 11, 1984.
Schaars began his career at Vitesse Arnhem football and made his debut with the club on March 9, 2003 when the play beat FC Ultrecht.
Subsequently in 2005, he moved to AZ even captained the club for the club.
His debut for the Dutch national team on August 26, 2006 in a friendly match when the win against the Republic of Ireland. In the early years he was the captain of the Dutch national team while winning the UEFA Under-21 Championship 2006. In the 2006-2007 season he takes no part to play in the Eredivisie since the injury and Schaars also ruled out taking part in the UEFA Euro 2008.
Schaars included in the initial squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and on May 27, 2010 Dutch manager of van Marwijk announced that Schaars become part of the final squad 23 and participated in the competition.
