Fábio Alexandre da Silva Coentrao is a Portuguese footballer who was born on March 11, 1988 in Vila do Conde, Portugal is playing in the wingback position for the Portugal national team and clubs which he joined.
Coentrao beginning to play football when he joined with Rio Ave FC at the age of sixteen years in the 2004-2006 season. Later he played for the senior club in 2005-2007, scoring five goals in 29 appearances. After two seasons playing for Rio Ave, then Coentrao joining Benfica. While at Benfica, he was loaned to the club Nacional in 2008 and scored four goals in sixteen appearances. In the same year Coentrao loaned to one of La Liga club with Real Zaragoza, but only appeared once with the club. He returned on loan to Rio Ave in January 2009, along with his former club he appeared in sixteen appearances and scored three goals.
On December 2, 2009, Coentrao played by the club Benfica as a left defender for the European championship against FC BATE.
Then on September 27, 2010, at the age of 22 years he extended his contract with Benfica FC until 2016. Coentrao started playing for the Portugal national team at youth level in 2005 for U-18 and only appeared once. In the next season in 2006-2007, he joined the national team of Portugal for the U-19 and scored five goals in six appearances. In 2007, Coentrao was selected MVP in the Madeira Cup for U-20. He represented Portugal to World Cup FIFA U-20 in 2007 and made his debut for the U-21 in 2007-2010, scoring six goals in eight appearances. Coentrao began to strengthen at Portugal a senior level in 2009 although he still played at youth level for the last time. He was chosen coach of Portugal for the 23-man squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Coentrao play in all matches up to half of the 16th when Portugal defeated by stalled due to Spain.
