Tiago Cardoso Mendes or known by the name of Tiago Mendes was a Portuguese footballer who was born on May 2, 1981 in Viana de Castelo. Tiago is a midfielder and has played professionally in four of the major leagues in Europe including the UK, France, Italy and Spain.
Tiago was first known for his game stands out when at Sporting de Braga when he was 19 years and helped the club reach the rank fourth with 27 games in 2001 thus qualifying for the UEFA Cup. In late 2001, he moved to league Sport Lisboa e Benfica and in his first season helped the club was runner-up league by scoring 13 goals.
Tiago signed by the club Chelsea on 20 July 2004 at a cost of € 15 million. He lost the match for the 2004-2005 season, but an important member after making his debut against Crystal Palace on August 24, 2004 and long-distance scoring against Manchester United on May 10, 2005. Tiago made 51 appearances in all competitions and scored four goals.
In the next season, Tiago signed a four-year contract with the club Lyon with a transfer value of € 10.1 million.
In his first season with Lyon, he scored a pair of goals against PSV Eindhoven when carrying Lyon reached the UEFA Champions League final and when the winning goal against Troyes on April 1, 2006. Ligue 1 champion Lyon which is the fifth consecutive victory. Tiago won two league titles and helped L'OL to the domestic cup and the total scored six goals in 40 appearances in the second season.
On July 17, 2007, Lyon president confirms departure Tiago to Juventus and officially signed a contract with the club on July 21, 2007 with a value of € 13 million. Appearances initially criticized for Juventus to be bid as a loan player in the Premier League with Everton. But Tiago rejected the offer and chose to remain in Italy. In November 2008, when against Inter, he was stretchered out of the field due to a knee injury and requires to be absent for nearly two months. Tiago back to playing when against Lazio.
On January 8, 2010 Tiago joined Atletico Madrid's player of the loan until the end of the season. He scored his first league goal in la Liga on January 21, 2010 game against Celta Vigo for the Copa del Rey.
Tiago appearance with the national team of Portugal when given the opportunity to make his debut against Scotland in November 2002. Next he went 23-man squad for UEFA EURO 2004 despite not playing in the final tournament. Tiago also contributed to the national team of Portugal during the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany and played five matches in the tournament to Portugal reached the semi-finals but lost by the French. Tiago scored a goal for the national team of Portugal in March 2007 as against Serbia. But his name is not entered for the UEFA EURO 2008. In 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Tiago was elected to replace Deco in the squad during a match against Ivory Coast. On January 17, 2011 three months after the birthday of the 30th, he officially left the Portugal national team for personal reasons and also to give young players a chance. Tiago to end his international career with 58 caps and scored three goals.
