Daniel Marcio Fernandes, better known by the name Daniel Fernandes is a Portuguese-Canadian footballer who was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on September 25, 1983 and he played as a goalkeeper with the Portugal national team and clubs which he joined.
Fernandes was the son of a Portuguese father and mother from Czechoslovakia, he was raised in east Vancouver BC.
He started playing as a goalkeeper at the Vancouver Olympics FC in VMSL Fernandes then in 2000 moved to Portugal and signed by the club Porto for a professional contract.
In 2002, he joined on loan to Celta Vigo but Regionalliga Jahn Regensburg. After a season on loan, then he returned to Celta Vigo and was released on a free transfer.
Fernandes eventually playing for Greek club PAOK and signed a formal contract with the club. In 2005, General manager of the club PAOK Fernandes replaced and the minimal role with the club. But he was grateful for all the 2005-2006 season to play in almost all games in the League Cup and Greece.
Despite the many problems that occur at the club PAOK, but managed to be ranked sixth league and qualified for the 2006-2007 UEFA Cup first round was even able to make a pretty good look at the group stage of UEFA Cup 2005-2006. Fernandes became the second goalkeeper to the club at the Euro 2008 qualifiers.
On May 23, 2008, PAOK received an offer from VfL Bochum to sign Fernandes transfer contract with a value of approximately € 1.2 million, this offer was agreed on May 24, 2008. After joining VfL Bochum, he was loaned out to FC Iraklis Thessaloniki until the end of the season. Then in early summer 2010, Fernandes signed on loan to Panathinaikos club with no option to buy.
Fernandes debut with the national team began when he joined with Portugal for the U-21 in 2006 because he had been shut down for Canada at U-20 level. He received the first call in November 2006 and he received a call in March 2007 but only on the bench. In May 2007, Fernandes received a call for Euro 2008 qualifiers against Belgium and the friendly match against Kuwait.
He made his debut with the senior national team on June 5, 2007 as a substitute goalkeeper against Kuwait. Fernandes also be a backup goalie against Malta in September 2008. In February 2009, he played two international matches against Finland in March 2009 but only Fernandes was on the bench against Sweden and he received the last call in June as against Estonia. In 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Fernandes became one goalkeeper in the squad 23-man national team in Portugal.
