Uruguay's Diego Forlan is a footballer who plays as a striker and was born on May 19, 1979 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Forlan is the son of former Uruguay international footballer named Pablo Forlan, originally the father was a promising tennis player in his youth but because it follows the family tradition and concentrate on playing football. Forlan played for several clubs in South America including joint club Independiente in Argentina where he became top scorer. In January 2002, Forlan attract the attention of European football and decided to play for Manchester United in the UK with a contract value of £ 6,900,000. Forlan had it tough when joining Manchester United although it has made his debut on January 29 against Bolton but did not score until 18 September and penalties in the Champions League match against Moccabi Haifa. Forlan scored a goal when Manchester United became the winner of the match during the 2002-2003 Premiership season against Chelsea and become a fan favorite when scored 2 goals against Arsenal. In November 2002, when Forlan scored against Southampton. He scored 17 goals from 95 appearances.
When joining Villarreal in August 2004 proved he played well. Forlan has been linked to joining the Spanish club Levante, but on August 21, 2004 signed a contract with Villarreal in which the 2004-2005 season Pichichi Cup winner with 25 goals and for the first time to help Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League. Forlan start the 2009-2010 season with a bad start, but on October 24, 2009 when he scored a goal against Mallorca. In this season Forlan flourished in the second half and helped Atletico reach the final of both the European League and the Copa del Rey. On February 14, 2010, he scored against Barcelona. On April 22, 2010, Forlan scored the first leg semi-final against Liverpool.
Season 2010-2011, Forlan started by winning the European Super Cup by beating Inter Milan in the Champions League on August 27, 2010. On November 13, he scored a victory against Osasuna.
Forlan international debut with the national team of Uruguay in 2002 and subsequently scored in the 2002 FIFA World Cup against Senegal on June 11, 2002. He also scored when the semi-final against Brazil in the Copa America in 2007. Forlan also scored a hat-trick in World Cup qualifier against Peru on June 17, 2008 and played against France in 2002 FIFA World Cup. On June 16, 2010, during the second group match of Uruguay in the 2010 FIFA World Cup against South Africa, Forlan opened the scoring. On July 2, 2010, Forlan scored a free kick against Ghana and evened the score in the quarterfinals. He also played in the semi-final against Ghana in fighting penalties. Forlan also scored one goal in the semi-final when against the Dutch. Forlan is the player who scored 3 goals outside the penalty box in a single tournament. On July 10, 2010, Forlan scored the last time at the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament and he was awarded the 'Golden Ball' as the best player in the tournament. Forlan is the fourth player in South America who has received the Golden Ball at the FIFA World Cup tournament.
