Uruguay's Diego Forlan is a footballer who plays as a striker and was born on May 19, 1979 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Forlan is the son of former Uruguay international footballer named Pablo Forlan, originally the father was a promising tennis player in his youth but because it follows the family tradition and concentrate on playing football. Forlan played for several clubs in South America including joint club Independiente in Argentina where he became top scorer. In January 2002, Forlan attract the attention of European football and decided to play for Manchester United in the UK with a contract value of £ 6,900,000. Forlan had it tough when joining Manchester United although it has made his debut on January 29 against Bolton but did not score until 18 September and penalties in the Champions League match against Moccabi Haifa. On July 2, 2010, Forlan scored a free kick against Ghana and evened the score in the quarterfinals. He also played in the semi-final against Ghana in fighting penalties. Forlan also scored one goal in the semi-final when against the Dutch. Forlan is the player who scored 3 goals outside the penalty box in a single tournament. On July 10, 2010, Forlan scored the last time at the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament and he was awarded the 'Golden Ball' as the best player in the tournament. Forlan is the fourth player in South America who has received the Golden Ball at the FIFA World Cup tournament.
