Peter Mark Andrew van Bommel Gertruda or known by the name of van Bommel is a Dutch footballer who was born on April 22, 1977 in Maasbracht, Netherlands. Van Bommel played in the midfielder position.
Van Bommel started his career in football with local club RKVV Maasbracht, he plays while still at junior level.
After several years of playing for a junior club, van Bommel to continue his career at senior level and start out with the club Fortuna Sittard in the year 1992-1999. After 7 years playing with Fortuna Sittard and then in 1999-2005, Van Bommel joined PSV. Together with his new club van Bommel appeared in 169 games with 46 goals.
In 2005-2006, van Bommel moved to one of the Spanish club Barcelona and played with the club for one season. In one season, van Bommel appeared in 24 games, scoring 2 goals.
Van Bommel then transferred to German giants Bayern Munich in 2006. Since 2006, van Bommel has played in 115 times and scored 11 goals in the team. Careers van Bommel with the Dutch national was started when in 2000 as against Cyprus but he failed to strengthen the Dutch national team in 2002 FIFA World Cup even for the UEFA Euro 2004 in Portugal because of injury. Van Basten did not vote for him in the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers because of disappointing performances, but he played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Van Bommel finally elected to the Dutch national team squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa by van Marwijk coach who is also father-in-law. Van Marwijk was elected as the new captain when the Dutch win against San Marino.
