Maarten Stekelenburg is a Dutch professional goalkeeper who played for the Dutch national team. He was born in Haarlem on 22 September 1982. Stekelenburg is a product of Ajax junior where he followed the footsteps van der Sar. In addition to follow in his footsteps, also replaced as goalkeeper Stekelenburg Dutch national team and reached the final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
Stekelenburg began his career with Zandvoort'75 before finally joining with VV Schoten then moved to play for Ajax at the age of 15 years. Stekelenburg make early debut with Ajax on February 24, 2002 in a game against NAC Breda. In 2004, Stekelenburg joined Ajax in the Eredivisie felt victory after he played in 10 games.
Stekelenburg was the first goalkeeper in the 2005-2006 season and won the KNVB Cup for the first time. In season 2006-2007, he participated won the KNVB Cup for the second time and became an 'Player of the Year' for the season 2007-2008. In the 2008-2009 season, Stekelenburg many homeless because of an injury.
Stekelenburg made his international debut for the Dutch national team on September 3, 2004 as against Liechtenstein. He called for the Dutch squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany but did not play due to van der Sar became the first choice.
Stekelenburg started his international debut as a substitute for the UEFA Euro Van Der Sar and on June 17 when he played against Romania and the Netherlands in the quarterfinals. As against Australia in September 2008, Stekelenburg was called after the minute 44 and he was the first Dutch goalkeeper who receives a red card.
Since van der Sar retired from the national team, became the first choice Stekelenburg coach van Marwijk and included in the Dutch squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa announced on May 27, 2010. Stekelenburg even play full-until-final 2010 FIFA World Cup until the final round and lost when the fight against Spain.
