André Antonius Maria Ooijer or known by the name of André Ooijer is a Dutch footballer who was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on July 1, 1974. He played as central defender with the club and the Dutch national team.
Ooijer is married to Joyce van de Kerkhof who is the daughter of a former Dutch footballer named Willy van de Kerkhof. From his marriage is he has 2 daughters named Demi and Danique and 2 boys from a previous relationship named Denzell and Cerezo.
Ooijer first played football as a kid with an amateur club SDW over the next 5 years in the SDZ at the age of 12 years.
Ooijer played with club Ajax in the 1986-1987 season as a reserve player. Because he was considered still small and a lot of competition in Ajax, the 1994-1996 season on loan to FC Volendam.
Ooijer finally signed a permanent contract with Roda JC in the beginning of the season 1995-1996. During the joint Roda JC, he played in the position of rightback can also centreback or even defensive midfield.
Later in the season 1997-1998, Ooijer decided to join PSV Eindhoven.
After 8 years with PSV, on July 15, 2005 Ooijer moved to defend one club in Italy's Serie A League of Genoa in 1893 after the club's promotion in the 2004-2005 season with a transfer value of € 1.5 million. However Ooijer back to PSV after Genoa were relegated to Serie C1 as punishment by the Italian Football Federation for alleged match-fixing. Together with Eindhoven, Ooijer, is appointed to the Netherlands for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France and in the Eredivisie he brought PSV won 5 times and once in the Dutch Cup. Ooijer is also a regular participant in the Champions League.
On August 23, 2006, Blackburn Rovers signed Ooijer from PSV with a value of £ 2 million for 2 years with 1 year extension options. Ooijer's debut was originally with Blackburn when against Chelsea on August 27, 2006 at the Edwood Park. On January 20, 2007, on the 20th league appearance with the club, Ooijer suffered a broken fibula and ankle ligament while Blackburn's win against Manchester City at City of Manchester Stadium.
On August 16, 2008, Ooijer scored his first goal with the club against Everton and scored when the next on April 4, 2009 as against Tottenham. The club eventually extend the contract 2 years in the 2008-2009 season. On March 25, 2009 as confirmed by PSV TV that he would return with PSV in May 2009 when the contract with Blackburn expired. On May 21, 2009, Ooijer agree again signed a deal with PSV contract for 1 year before he ever played in the club in 1997-2006. His international career began when Ooijer was chosen by coach Guus Hiddink for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. But he was always on the bench in every game. Ooijer just begun to compete with the Dutch national team after coach Hiddink replaced by Frank Rijkaard. Starting debut on June 5, 1999 against Brazil, but he was not elected to the UEFA Euro 2000. Once overlooked several times for national team by Rijkaard and then Louis van Gaal who replaces Rijkaard in 2001, when the Dutch playing Ooijer coached by Dick Advocaat in 2003. Even Ooijer scored a goal in the second-leg qualifying play-offs for the UEFA Euro 2004 at the Amsterdam Arena. Ooijer into the final selection by Advocaat for the UEFA Euro 2004 finals in Portugal.
Ooijer squad Netherlands as selected by coach van Basten for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and he played full time in 4 games, then he is also called to strengthen the Netherlands for the UEFA Euro 2008 in Austria-Switzerland. Ooijer played in 2 games and in the quarterfinals when it lost to Russia.
In May 2010, Ooijer is inserted in the beginning of the Dutch squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. On June 11, 2010 he called for the 11 initial squad when the Dutch victory over Brazil.
