Philipp Lahm
Philipp Lahm is a footballer who was born in Munich, Germany on 11 November 1983. He played in the position right back or left back. Lahm is the backbone of the German players who elected to replace Ballack as captain because of injury.
Until now, Lahm has been playing for VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and for Germany in Euro 2004, FIFA World Cup 2006 and Euro 2008, FIFA 2010 World Cup and scored the opening of the World Cup.
Lahm became a professional football player in the Bayern Munich Junior Team and he began his career at the age of 11 years. Lahm won the second time the A-Junior Bundesliga in 2001 when he was 17 years old and when was he appointed as captain of the junior team. During the junior level, Lahm played in the position of defensive midfielder, right midfielder or right full-back. Lahm season on loan at Stuttgart in 2003-2004 and 2004-205. In Stuttgart, Lahm was originally played at right defensive position, but coach Magath was in a position to play left back Lahm. Lahm's first debut in the 2003-2004 season as a substitute against Hansa Ronstock. Lahm was first played in the UEFA Champions League game against Lens as a substitute and then in September 2003, Lahm played in the UEFA Champions League game against Manchester United as a core player. Lahm played in every game and scored a goal in the tournament final against England. On February 18, 2004, Lahm played a few matches for the German national team U-20 and U-21, including the time win against Croatia.
Lahm was also part of the German team in the UEFA Euro 2004 in Portugal. Lahm spent one season in international football between January 2005 until March 2006 due to a broken foot and torn ligaments. Therefore, Lahm was not playing in the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2005. In 2006 FIFA World Cup, Lahm scored the opening goal when Germany against Costa Rica and he was nominated 'Man of the Match' at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and was also elected in the 2006 Mastercard All Star Team.
Lahm was nominated for the FIFA World Player of the Year 2006 at the FIFA World Cup in 2006 but the award was won by Fabio Cannavaro of Italy on December 18, 2006. During the UEFA Euro 2008, Lahm was in a line-up and he scored the winning goal in the semi-final against Turkey on June 25, 2008 and became the 'Man of the Match'. Germany advanced to the finals, but in the final of the German national team was defeated by Spain after Torres scored.
Lahm played in 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier and on June 13, 2010 he was elected to replace team captain Ballack's injury. Lahm became the youngest player to a position as a captain at the FIFA World Cup tournament. Lahm is Germany a lot of players nominated for the team in international tournaments with Ballack.
