Stewart Downing is a British footballer who was born on July 22, 1984 in Didcot, England, and he plays as a winger with the club Liverpool and the England national team.
Downing is a Middlesbrough academy graduates, he debuted on April 24, 2002 in the FA Premier League match at Ipswich Town and scored the first goal for the senior team in the League Cup at Brentford. In 2003, Downing was loaned to Sunderland. During his time as a loan player, he's got a lot of praise and in the UEFA Cup match against Lazio in November 2004 he was in the starting line-up.
In the 2004-2005 season, Downing made 49 appearances and scored 6 goals to pull the England national team manager for the squad in February 2005 in a friendly against Holland. In 2005, Downing sidelined for five months due to injury and he was back playing the UEFA Cup final in 2006. Downing signed a new contract with Middlesbrough dive five years and ended in the summer of 2013. In the 2008-2009 season, he played pretty good though in the end Middlesbrough relegated to a lot of players who left the club. Downing on January 5, 2009 also submit a written request to leave the club but was rejected. During Middlesbrough in the relegation zone, he started every game in the league except when the game end.
Downing eventually signed a four-year contract in the summer of 2009 for the transfer fee of £ 10 million with an additional £ 2 million to be paid depending on his performance with Aston Villa after Middlesbrough relegated. Downing debut with Aston Villa began when he played as a substitute against Burnley and scored the first goal against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on December 1, 2009 in the fourth round Carling Cup. As for the 2010-2011 season, Downing made 44 appearances and scored 8 goals in all competitions and become one of the best players during the season. For the current season with Aston Villa, Downing played in 79 total games and scored 11 goals.
On July 13, 2011, Downing joined Liverpool and actually complete his move on July 15, 2011 which is believed by the transfer value of £ 20 million over four years. He made his Liverpool debut against Sunderland at Anfield on August 13, 2011.
Downing career with the England national team was in when he was summoned to the UEFA European Championship 2003 for the U-19 and playing as much as seven times for the U-21 including the debut on February 9, 2005 against the Netherlands. He was called into the squad for the FIFA World Cup 2006 and became a replacement player in the opening match against Paraguay, then during the match against Trinidad-Tobago scored in the last 10 minutes. Downing is also involved in Euro 2008 qualifiers against Andorra and the Republic of Macedonia. After the turn of the national team manager, Downing precisely selected for the squad in Euro 2012 qualifier on October 12, 2010 against Montenegro.
