Lucas Pezzini Leiva, or known by the name of Lucas is a Brazilian footballer who was born in Dourados, Brazil on January 9, 1987 and played as a defensive midfielder for Liverpool club and national team Brazil. Lucas is the nephew of former Brazilian football player named Leivinha and he also holds an Italian passport because the descendants of the country.
In his career in football, Lucas came to Liverpool from Gremio as an attacking midfielder but moved to defensive midfield position. Lucas became a consistent player in the 2010-2011 season and gained a reputation as a 'big-game player' because he always looks good even under pressure. Even the Liverpool club captain stated that Lucas is the best player at his position in the 2009-2010 season.
Lucas's career with the club started in 2004-2005 when he played for Gremio at the junior level, then continues at a senior level in the 2005-2007 season and has scored four goals in 38 appearances. After two seasons playing for Gremio, Lucas joined the English club Liverpool on 26 July 2007 and he scored one goal in 111 appearances. Lucas was able to score a goal while he was still playing for Liverpool until the contract expires.
Lucas debut with the Brazilian national team began in 2007 when he entered the Brazilian squad for U-20 and playing as many as nine appearances with four goals. Later he played for the Brazil U-23 and featured as many as seven times in the year 2008 but Lucas also played for the senior national team began in 2007 and has featured as many as 17 times.
