Ricardo Alberto Silveira de Carvalho is the full name of the footballer Ricardo Carvalho who was born in Amarante Portugal on May 18, 1978. He played in Spain as the center-back to La Liga club Real Madrid and Portugal national team.
Carvalho brought to FC Porto from 1996 to 1997 junior season. Next he made his professional debut as a player and sign a loan agreement to Leca FC. Subsequently in 1999 and 2001 he was loaned to the club Vitória de Setubal and FC Alverca. After the period ended pinjamannnya, Carvalho returned to FC Porto in the 2001-2002 season and became the third choice player but he quickly gained a place in the core team. At the end of the season, Carvalho had been tracked by several clubs such as Milan, Barcelona and Manchester United but the English club through the Chelsea offer € 30 (£ 25.5) million and Porto accept the offer for 3 years. At Chelsea, Carvalho became one of the best center-back in Europe in 2004 and signed a contract with a fee of € 30 (£ 25.5) million in his first season with Chelsea. He helped win the first Premier League title in 50 years and the League Cup. Carvalho scored his first goal when against Norwich City, but he was also fined £ 85,000 as against Arsenal.
On October 19, Carvalho scored his first goal with Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League group stage as against Real Betis. Then on April 29, he scored a goal in the Premier League against Manchester United and helped Chelsea won the title for the second consecutive year. In the years 2006-2007, exactly on April 7, Carvalho scored from a distance of 30-yard game against Tottenham Hotspur. He signed a five-year contract extension with Chelsea on the 29th birthday on May 18, 2007. In season 2006-2007, Carvalho has been recognized a number of organizations and is listed as one of seven candidates for the Premiership's 'Defender of the Year' and became one of three Chelsea players nominated for the 'Player of the Year'. In the 2007-2008 season, exactly on 26 April, Carvalho made his 100th appearance in the Premier League against Manchester United and helped Chelsea to reach Champions League final for the second time. On May 8, 2008, Carvalho was elected by fellow Chelsea as the 'Players Player of the Year' and become Chelsea's third on 'Player of the Year'.
On August 10, 2010, Real Madrid signed a contract for Carvalho reported cost of 7.9 € (£ 6.7) million 2-year contract. His debut with Real Madrid on August 13, 2010 in a friendly match against Bayern Munich. On October 19, 2010, in the UEFA Champions League victory against Milan, Carvalho being 'Man of the match' by the Spanish newspaper Marca.During the season 2003-2004, Carvalho plays for Portugal's national team on October 11, 2003 in a friendly match against Albania. He became the core team for the UEFA EURO 2004 Championship as a substitute against Greece. In the tournament, he was nominated for 'UEFA Euro Team of the Tournament' and become the best back in Europe 2004. Carvalho representing Portugal for the second time in a big tournament at the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany. He played all the games and became one of 23 players nominated for the 'All Star Team of the Tournament'.
Carvalho was chosen in the Portugal squad for the UEFA Euro 2008 Championship and he has played in three of four matches including against Turkey and Czech Republic in the group stage and in the quarter-finals when Germany was defeated. Two years later, Carvalho strengthen Portugal for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and is able to reach the round of 16 but was defeated Spain.
