Gregory van der Wiel Kurtley or known by the name of van der Wiel is a Dutch international footballer who played with the national team and now the defending club Ajax. He was born on February 3, 1988 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and played at right back position.
He started his football career with Ajax youth team. In 2010, van der Wiel was awarded Cruijff Award as 'Young Player of the Year'.
His debut for the Dutch national team in February 2009 when he participated for the Dutch entry in the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament in South Africa.
van der Wiel is the son of a father of Dutch descent from CuraƧao and mother who is an ethnic Dutch. He spoke in addition to using the original Dutch language is also English.
In October 2009, van der Wiel involved in controversy because he did not participate for a friendly match when the Dutch squad to travel to Australia because he was rumored to have a concussion while playing for club Ajax. But he's seen was in concert there is Wayne and his picture on twitter page. Because of that incident, he was criticized by other players in the national team including the coach van Marwijk while Ajax club manager Martin Jol defended van der Wiel. For the incident coach van Marwijk may forgive him and insisted that the incident had no impact on the national team.
