Gregory van der Wiel Kurtley or known by the name of van der Wiel is a Dutch international footballer who played with the national team and now the defending club Ajax. He was born on February 3, 1988 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and played at right back position.
van der Wiel made his professional debut with Ajax on March 11, 2007 when the win against FC Twente. In season 2007-2008, he participated in the victory against Eindhoven in the championship when Johan Cruijff-Schaal, which is his first victory.
On December 17, 2008, van der Wiel scored an own goal when against Slavia Prague in the UEFA Cup and scored the first goal against FC Ultrecht at Galgenwaard stadium for Ajax in the Eredivisie on March 1, 2009. Subsequently on March 22, 2009, he scored a second goal for Ajax against NAC Breda in the 2008-2009 season until van der Wiel was given the award 'Ajax Talent of the Year' for having played in 40 games for Ajax and made his international debut.
van der Wiel 2009-2010 season started well with Ajax under new manager Martin Jol on August 8, 2009. On November 1, 2009, he scored a goal in the 'klassieker' against Feyenoord and he also played when Ajax beat Feyenoord in the Dutch Cup final from 2009 to 2010 on May 6, 2010 until the end he was awarded the Johan Cruijff Award for 'Young Player of the Year' at the end of the season. After the 2010 FIFA World Cup, van der Wiel reportedly in talks to transfer to the Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, but Ajax is not able to approve the deal.
Van der Wiel career with the Dutch national team begins at the level of U-21 when it participated in 2007 Toulon Tournament. Its international debut with the Netherlands, on February 11, 2009 as a substitute when in a friendly match against Tunisia. van der Wiel made his debut competitively on March 28, 2009 to win the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Scotland. He also played full time on April 1, 2009 when the win for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Macedonia. van der Weil selected by coach van Marwijk 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and as the starting line-up when the Netherlands won the first game against Denmark and Japan.
