Raul José Trindade Meireles or better known as Raul Meireles is a Portuguese footballer who was born in Porto, Portugal on March 17, 1983 and he played as a midfielder.
Meireles now playing for the club Premier League with Liverpool and Portugal national team. He is the winner of the championship four times with FC Porto of Portugal and won the 2011 PFA Fans' Player of the Year award after his first season with Liverpool.
Meireles began his career when he joined Boavista junior in 1999-2001 and then in 2001 he entered the senior club Boavista for three seasons until 2004. Together with Boavista, Meireles loaned to the club for two seasons Aves 2001-2003 season and scored a single goal in the forty-two times the performance.
Meireles made his debut on August 17, 2003 against Benfica and he was elected as the 'man of the match' by the Portuguese newspaper Record.
On July 7, 2004, Meireles players enter into a contract with Porto a five-year period. Debut with the Porto União de Leiria against on September 22, 2004 at the Estádio do Dragão.
On March 10, 2005, he scored a goal in the league at the win against Vitória de Setúbal. Meireles scored his first goal in the Champions League in season 2006-2007 on February 21, 2007 as against Chelsea and helped Porto win the Portuguese League title three consecutive times in the season 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009, also helped win two Cups Portugal in 2009 and 2010. Total appearances 138 Porto, scoring fifteen goals.
After five years with Porto, Meireles joined Liverpool on August 29, 2010. He was until recently managed to score five goals for the club Liverpool in thirty-three appearances.
Meireles played for Portugal's national team against Israel in the 2000 UEFA European Under-16 Football Championship for U-16. He also played for the U-17 in Bari, Italy for the 2001 Meridian Cup. In November he was appointed in the Portugal squad for U-19 and scored one goal against Belarus and on June 2, 2003, Meireles was elected in U-20 squad for the 2003 Toulon Tournament. Meireles play for 2004 European Under-21 Championship, including game play-off against France.
On July 21, 2004, he was elected to the 18-man squad at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.
In November 2006, Meireles first appearance for the senior national team of Portugal in the UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying match against Kazakhstan. On 12 May 2008, he was selected to enter the national team squad for Portugal at Euro 2008 EFA as a substitute against Turkey and scored the first international. Meireles is also selected for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and appeared regularly in the qualifications. He scored goals in the tournament against North Korea in Cape Town and Portugal only reached the round of 16 since losing to Spain.
