Diego Alfredo Lugano Moreno or known by the name of Uruguay's Diego Lugano is a footballer who plays at center back position and was born in Canelones, Uruguay on November 2, 1981. Lugano previously played with Plaza Colonia, Nacional and Sao Paolo and also selected as the best captain for the national team of Uruguay at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
Lugano played for the club Sao Paulo on May 11, 2003 and played a draw against Atletico Mineiro when. He also began playing in the national team of Uruguay in Iran match on February 4, 2003. In 2005 while playing for Sao Paolo in the center back position, he led his team in the Campeonato Paulista, Libertadores Cup and the FIFA Club World Championship in Tokyo. In the same year he was awarded as 'best defender in South America' and in 2006 he brought his army up to the runner-up in the Libertadores Cup.
Lugano joining one club in Turkey namely Fenerbahçe on August 21, 2006 for a total transfer of € 7.5 M in term of 4 years. Fenerbahçe Fans call Lugano as TALENTO, orgullo, Tecnico, ambicion which is Spanish because he scored a spectacular goal off the ball. He got his red card during the derby match against Galatasaray in the 2008-2009 season, exactly on April 12, 2009 at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium. Lugano signed another contract for 4 years with Fenerbahçe.
On July 27, 2010, Lugano has been reserved to play friendly matches for the Uruguayan national team against Angola in Lisbon.
