Joris Mathijsen is a Dutch professional footballer who played with the national team as a center back and full back. He was born on April 5, 1980 in Goirle, Netherlands.
Joris Mathijsen football career started with SV VOAB in Goirle after he visited the club as a young player. At the age of 9 years, Joris Mathijsen started with the youth training system Willem II Tilburg. He was promoted to first team in 1998-1999 season and made his debut on February 27, 1999 when the match against FC Ultrecht. Joris Mathijsen sold to AZ Alkmaar by managers Co. Adriaaanse after defending Willem II for 6 years.
Mathijsen choose to join with German Bundesliga club Hamburg with a value of € 6,000,000 and in collaboration with fellow Dutch players namely van der Vaart and de Jong after AZ was in a position Eredivisie runner-up in 2006. He scored his first goal for Hamburg on October 20, 2007 as against Stuttgart and then in November 2008 Mathijsen signed a contract extension with Hamburg until summer 2012. Mathijsen made his international debut for the Dutch national team on 17 November 2004 when the win against Andorra. He called in the Dutch national team squad for the UEFA Euro 2008 in Austria-Switzerland. At first he lost his place in the tournament but it was always the first choice of qualification.
Mathijsen become part of the Dutch national team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa chosen by the manager van Marwijk. He was in the starting line-up remedy when the Dutch first game against Denmark.
