Martin Škrtel is a footballer from Czechoslovakia who were born on December 15, 1984. He played at center back position.
Skrtel was born and raised in Ráztočno Handlová, he played football since the age of six years and followed his father's footsteps. He was the youngest of three brothers. Skrtel played as a striker and a left wing until the age of 16 years but playing in central defense position for the junior national team of Slovakia.
Skrtel started his professional career with the club FK AS Trenčín and has played in 45 games between the years 2001-2004.
Later he joined one of the clubs in Russia. He made his debut for Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Russian Cup match on July 31, 2004. Skrtel has played 113 times and scored 5 goals, so many clubs interested to sign him, such as Valencia, Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle but eventually signed for Liverpool in the transfer market in January 2008.
Skrtel joined Liverpool precisely on January 11, 2008 with the contract for four and a half years and the transfer value of £ 6,500,000.
