Simão Pedro Fonseca Sabrosa, or known by the name of Simão Sabrosa is a footballer who was born in Vila Real, Portugal on October 31, 1979 and played in the position of winger.
Simão was born in the village Constantim in Vila Real and start a career with Sporting Clube de Portugal. During two years of his career with the club, he has played in 53 matches and scored twelve goals even though at first he only played in 17 games, including the time win against Gil Vicente FC.
Simão moved to Barcelona in the summer of 1999 with a transfer value of € 15 million and in his first season helped the club was runner-up La Liga.
In 2001, he moved to his country and signed a contract with SL Benfica the Portuguese League transfer record with a value of € 12 million. Together with the club he became a player favorite and earned the status of captain Simão even become the club's top scorer. In 2004-2005, he helped Benfica win the national championship after 11 years of waiting and scored 15 goals in all matches. In the UEFA Cup season, Simão played in every game and scored four goals including the time win against Dukla Banska Bystrica.
In 2005-2006, he helped his team in the UEFA Champions League campaign to reach the quarter-finals. Simão played in eight in ten matches in the tournament including the game against Manchester United in the group stage. In the summer of 2005, Simão targeted by Liverpool with a bid of around £ 12 million but the negotiations failed because Benfica increase in price.
Finally on July 20, 2007, Aletico Madrid, Simão achieve an agreement to sign with a value of € 20 million. During the first two seasons, where he was a starter and scored seven goals. On April 12, 2009, Simão entry in the capital's history, scoring 4000 goals in the league. In the summer of 2009, Simão became one of the new captain for Atletico and he accomplished as a whole by scoring in the Champions League game against APOEL FC. On January 14, 2010, Simão scored twice against Recreativo de Huelva Atletico. He also scored a goal against Galatasaray in the European League and reached the final against Fulham.
In season 2010-2011, Simão scored three goals in eight first match against Valencia CF among others on September 22, 2010. He also became captain of a substitute when they lost to Inter Milan in the UEFA Super Cup's.
On December 22, 2010 when the age of 31 years Simão, Simão signed by one of the Turk in the Super Lig club with Besiktas JK. Then, on May 11, 2011, when he scored against Turkey won the Istanbul Cup after extra time Büyükşehir Belediyespor.
Simão is known to be one that strengthens the national team players when Portugal won the UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship in 1996. The following year, he began playing for the U-18 and two years later became a regular player for the U-21. Simão makes a full debut with the national team of Portugal on 18 November 1998 at the age of 19 years as against Israel. He was not selected for the 2002 FIFA World Cup due to injury but he participated in the UEFA EURO 2004 in which Portugal hosted, and managed to be runner-up.
In UEFA EURO 2004, Simão played in three of six matches in the tournament. And the most prominent appearance during win against England in the quarter-finals and managed to penetrate the semi-final at which time he became a substitute and scored in the final minutes of the game until the end to extra time and he scored again when fighting penalties. Simão recorded again into the national team of Portugal's squad for the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany, he played in all matches in the tournament and scored only one goal when against Mexico in the group stage. He managed to score a goal on the 1 July 2006 when fighting penalties against England. Next Simão played in three games for the UEFA EURO 2008 and Portugal were beaten by Germany in the quarterfinals. In 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Simão became a starter in the second group stage and scored on June 21, 2010 against North Korea. On August 27, 2010, Simão decided to get out of the Portugal national team for personal reasons.
