Raul José Trindade Meireles or better known as Raul Meireles is a Portuguese footballer who was born on March 17, 1983 in Porto, Portugal and he played as a midfielder.
Meireles now playing for the club Premier League with Liverpool and Portugal national team.
In the 2001 season, signed by Despotivo Meireles das Aves Liga de Honra of which is the second-level competition as a player on loan from Portuguese club Boavista. He made his debut senior on August 8, 2001 in a friendly match against Gondomar. In the 2002-2003 season, exactly on May 25, 2003, Meireles scored the first goal against União da Madeira. In season 2003-2004, he returned to Bolavista after lent for two years. Meireles made his debut first in the Portuguese League on August 17, 2003 against Benfica and was elected in the Portuguese newspaper Record.
On July 7, 2004, FC Porto signed Meireles for a contract for five years and he made his debut on September 22 against União de Leiria at the Estádio do Dragão.
On February 18, 2005, Meireles play in the match when the next win against Belenenses on 23 February 2005 he made his debut in the Champions League against Inter Milan. Meireles scored the first goal in the Champions League in season 2006-2007 on February 21, 2007 as against Chelsea and won the Portuguese league three times in succession in the years 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009, also added two in Portugal Cup 2009 and 2010.
On August 29, 2010, Meireles decided to move to Liverpool with a transfer value of € 13 million. He made his debut as a substitute on September 12, 2010 when against Birmingham, and then he made his debut at the European League win over Steaua Bucuresti time at Anfield. Meireles was selected to win the 2011 PFA Fans' Player of the Year.
His debut for Portugal's national team begins at the junior level and represent the U-16 for the UEFA European Under-16 Football Championship in Israel in 2000. In the next year representing Meireles for U-17 team in 2001 at the Meridian Cup, held in Bari, Italy, and he plays in a game during win against Nigeria.
In November, Meireles was elected in U-19 squad for European Championship qualifiers. Continuing on June 2, 2003 he was elected in U-20 squad in the Toulon Tournament in 2003.
Meireles routinely play in qualifying the 2004 European Under-21 Championship, including the play-off against France. He played in four of five games in the tournament, including when they lost to Sweden, a draw against Switzerland and win against Germany in the group stage. On July 21, 2004 Meireles was chosen to be part of the 18-man squad for the 2004 Olympics held in Athens, Greece. He played as a substitute against Iraq and in the second match when against Morocco, as well as losing to Costa Rica.
In November 2006, Meireles first appearance for the national team of Portugal in the UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying match against Kazakhstan. He played as a substitute and scored the first international goal against Turkey. Meireles included in the Portugal squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and he played in all matches in the tournament.
Meireles scored against North Korea in Cape Town, but Portugal only until the last 16 being defeated by Spain
