Gianluca Zambrotta is known as an Italian footballer who was born in Como, Italy on February 19, 1977 and he played as a wingback.
Zambrotta gets the attention of the national team and strengthen the Italian for U-21 team on March 25, 1998. He played in all six games and attract attention when Italy against Spain. After an impressive performance at U-21 national team, Zambrotta find a place to strengthen the national team on February 10, 1999 9 days before the 22nd birthday when Italy against Norway. After a disappointing UEFA EURO, Zambrotta return to play for the U-21 at the Olympics in September 2000 and joined the match when Italy won against Australia and Honduras. Since Italy passed through to the quarter-finals, Zambrotta new reserved and played again as the last game against Nigeria for 80 minutes and eventually Italy was defeated by Spain and was runner-up. In 2003, when Maldini retired from international football he became the choice to enter the national team. Zambrotta scored the first time on May 30, 2004 as against Tunisia. Although Italy left out in the group stage the UEFA EURO 2004 but Zambrotta become one of the Italian players who praised his performance.
After disappointing in two big tournaments, he was elected to the Italian national team squad selected by coach Lippi after replacing Trappattoni. Zambrotta played in 8 of 10 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and helped win the group. On May 15, 2006, he was elected to the national team squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. During the final preparations at the Azzurri training game on May 28, 2006, Zambrotta suffered an injury and he missed the opening game against Ghana and won the match on June 12, 2006.
Zambrotta return to play while Italy against the United States on June 17, 2006 and he played at left-back position. After winning the match and become champions group against Czech Republic on June 22, 2006, move its position as the right-back. On lap 16 dated June 26, 2006 Italy against Australia, Zambrotta played a game at right-back position. On June 30, 2006, Zambrotta scored the opening goal when Italy against Ukraine. Then, during the Italy against Germany in the semi-finals on July 4, 2006, he scored again in the 90th minute of extra-time entry.
On July 9, 2006, Zambrotta played the final of a major international tournament after he missed the final UEFA UERO 2000. Participate Zambrotta won the 2006 FIFA World Cup after the Italian beat France on penalty shoot-half although he was not chosen as the executor.
In 2010 FIFA World Cup, he is still a choice and the squad of 23 players for the national team even though Italy has to lose in the second round.
