Nigel de Jong is a Dutch footballer who plays in the position of defensive midfielder. He was born on 30 November 1984 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
On October 19, 2002, de Jong made his debut with his first club Ajax. De Jong scored the first goal in his senior career when against Arsenal in the Champions League on February 18, 2003. De Jong decided to not continue the contract with Ajax on December 7, 2005 and he was at Ajax until the end of July 2006 because he more often was on the bench.
De Jong joined Bundesliga club Hamburg on January 26, 2006, and at the beginning of the season he scored a goal when his club lost to Bayern Munich.
After playing with Hamburg, de Jong moved to Manchester City in a period of 4 years on January 21, 2009. Initially when Manchester City debut against Newcastle on January 28, 2009. After starting three games at the start of the season with Manchester City from 2009 to 2010, de Jong play against Arsenal on September 12, 2009. He earned the nickname 'Man of the match' as against Chelsea on December 5, 2009. De Jong began his first with the Dutch national team in a friendly match against France on March 31, 2004. But he was not elected to the UEFA Euro 2004 and at the 2006 FIFA World Cup because of a knee injury.
De Jong was chosen by coach van Basten for the UEFA Euro 2008 when the Netherlands won against Italy. Subsequently on June 13, 2003, he was playing when the Dutch against France.
De Jong is the first player to score when against Iceland on June 6, 2010 in FIFA World Cup qualification matches. On March 3, 2010, de Jong receives a yellow card because of broken foot player United States named Stuart Holden. De Jong repeat the same mistakes in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final when losing to Sapnyol with a karate kick to the chest Alonso, but de Jong lucky because he did not get a card accumulation.
