Carles Puyol is a Spanish world cup footballer

Carles Puyol i Saforcada is a Spanish footballer who played in the position of a defender and was born in La Pobla de Segur, Spain on April 13, 1978. Puyol played at the club now plays for Barcelona and the Spanish national team and Barcelona club to act as club captain.
Puyol joined Barcelona at the age of 17 years in July and is believed to take over from Luis Enrique as a captain.
Puyol began his football career as a goalkeeper at the local club, then he plays as a striker. In 1995, Puyol joined the junior team of FC Barcelona in La Masia, and he plays in the defender position.
In 1997, he was playing in the Barcelona-B and right-back position.
In 1999, along with coach Luis van Gaal at the time, Puyol was promoted to first team play. Puyol made his debut in Division 2 in October 1999 against Valladolid. Puyol was appointed as club captain in the 2003-2004 season, replacing Luis Enrique, who retired.
In the 2003 season when Barcelona hit by financial crisis, Manchester United approached Puyol in order to move from Barcelona. But Manchester United's intentions did not materialize because two years later Puyol extend the contract with Barcelona for five seasons. Puyol was awarded 'Best European right back' by UEFA in 2002 and 'Best European center back' in 2005, 2006 and 2008 and received a trophy 'UEFA Club Best Defender' in year 2006. Puyol also helped the Catalan won two consecutive Premier League titles in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. In 2005, Puyol helped Barcelona win Champions League after 14 years.
On September 16, 2008, appearing in all competitions Puyol with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League against Sporting Clube de Portugal.
On May 2, 2009, Puyol helped the club win the League game against Madrid. And in the year 2009, Puyol also helped Barca won the European Super Cup, the Champions League in 2009 and 2009 FIFA Club World Cup.
