Alex Rodrigo Dias da Costa is a Brazilian professional footballer who played at center back position and was born in Niteroi, Brazil on June 17, 1982. Alex began his career with Brazilian club, Santos and his first debut in 2002. Chelsea has signed a contract for Alex Based on recommendations from PSV in 2004. Because of the potential work permit problems, so Alex is on loan to Dutch club PSV for three years. Once as a player on loan at PSV, and then Alex officially joined the 2004-2005 season and helped win the national doubles championship championship and the Dutch Eredivisie Dutch Cup. In UEFA Champions League 2004-05, Alex holds a key role in the team PSV but eliminated in the semi-final against Milan. In the second season with PSV, Alex brings his club won the Dutch League in the 2005-2006 season and third season in 2006-2007 Alex brought his club to win three titles Eridivisie. On August 2, 2007, Alex get a work permit and signed a contract with Chelsea for three years. Debut at Chelsea on August 19, 2007 when as a substitute against Liverpool. His first goal occurred when a free kick on 28 November 2007 in the Champions League against Rosenborg. Alex is given the opportunity Carvalho at Chelsea because of injury and he scored 1000 goals in Chelsea on November 1, 2008. In the 2009-2010 season, Alex made his first debut against Milan in the World Football Challenge and make a club Real Madrid are interested to sign him with a bid of £ 18m, but Chelsea declined. Alex just signed a new contract with Chelsea for four years on October 13, 2009 and will be at Chelsea club until the summer of 2013. On October 28, 2009, Alex played all 90 minutes in the Carling Cup match against Bolton. Early international career with Brazil for the U23 national team on July 17, 2003 against Mexico at the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Alex was not called at the time the World Cup in 2006 but he was summoned by national team coach on a regular basis to win the Copa America in 2007 and at the World Cup in 2010, Alex is one of the Brazilian national team reserve player.
