Italy's Gianluca Zambrotta is a footballer who was born on February 19, 1977 in Como Italy and play in the wingback position. Zambrotta is now playing with Serie A club AC Milan. Zambrotta was decorated as Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Cavaliere Omri) in 2000 and he was made an Officer of the Same Order (Ufficiale Omri) in 2006.
Zambrotta started his career with junior club Como when he was 17 years old in 1994-1997. After Como promoted to Serie B, Zambrotta played regularly on the 1995-1997 season with a game total of 47 appearances and scored 6 goals. Zambrotta then joined Bari after the club's promotion to Serie A in years 1997-1999. Over the past 2 seasons to join the club Bari, Zambrotta played 59 appearances, scoring 6 goals. After the contract with Bari expired, Zambrotta moved to giants Juventus on July 1, 1999. At Juventus, he played 217 and scored 6 goals. Zambrotta also won the Scudetto in the 2001-2002 season and he played a total of 32 matches and scored one goal on the season.
Zambrotta spent almost all his time with Juventus before he finally decided to join one of the Spanish giants Barcelona for Calciopoli case and make Juventus had to come down to Serie B. He is in demand by several clubs including AC Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona, but eventually he decided to move to Barca on August 4, 2006 after Italy won the FIFA World Cup 2006. On March 17, 2007, he scored his first goal with Barca's game against Recreativo.
After 2 seasons playing Barcelona, Zambrotta played for Milan and sign a contract for 3 years on May 31, 2008 with a value of € 9 million transfer. He scored his first goal with Milan from a distance of 32 meters as against Lazio on September 21, 2008.
His career with the Italian national team began when he played for Italy Under-21 national team on March 25, 1998 against Malta. The next match on April 22, 1988 when against Wales. Zambrotta get a chance to play with the national team on February 10, 1999 when against Norway 9 days before he celebrates his birthday the 22nd. He played for the U-21 at the Olympic Games and started his performance when the win against Australia and Honduras. In UEFA EURO, Zambrotta played at left-back position after Maldini states withdrew from international football. But Italy must be disappointed that eliminated in the group stage. Even so, Zambrotta become one of the players who praised his performance.
After the disappointment with 2 international tournaments, he was elected to the national team squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup but missed the opening match when Italy against Ghana on June 12, 2006. He was a late substitute when Italy against the United States on June 17, 2006 and he played at left-back position.
When Italy against Czech Republic on June 22, 2006, Zambrotta return at right-back position. In the round of 16, Zambrotta played against Australia on June 26, 2006.
He also played in the quarterfinals on June 30, 2006 when Italy against Ukraine, until the German defeat by extending the time in the next round. Zambrotta into Italian players who took part delivers world champions Italy.
