Steven Gerrard was born in Whiston, Merseyside, England on May 30, 1980 who played in the position of center midfielder or winger.
Gerrard started playing football at his hometown club named Whinston Junior but had long been in demand by Liverpool. Gerrard joined the Reds youth team when he was 9 years old and he's testing at various clubs when the age of 14 years including with Manchester United.
Gerrard signed his first professional contract with Liverpool on November 5, 1997. Gerrard made his debut with Liverpool on 28 November 1998 when it competed against Blackburn Rovers as a substitute in the last minute. Gerrard made 13 appearances in the early season and fill the midfield position Redknapp replaces the captain who was injured. He also played in right winger but only for a while because he could not play with the maximum. Gerrard was interviewed by The Guardian that he is actually playing out of position but he sure will play well little by little even though he is actually the center midfield player.
Gerrard partnered with Redknapp as the center midfield in the 1999-2000 season. Gerrard started derby against Everton and then replaced Fowler in the second round. He scored his first goal at senior level when the win against Sheffield Wednesday. He began to suffer from problems with his back and was diagnosed by a health care consultant if he is a problem with a lot of growth because of excessive play in adolescence over the years. Gerrard also suffered a groin injury and requires a separate operation 4 times.
In season 2000-2001, Gerrard played 50 times in all competitions and scored 10 goals as Liverpool won the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup in 2001. Gerrard replaces Sami Hypia in October 2003 and extended the contract with Liverpool for 4 years. After leaving Liverpool manager Houllier, Gerrard reportedly moved to Chelsea but he rejected the offer of £ 20 million to leave Liverpool and new coach Benitez.
At the start of 2004-2005 season, Gerrard suffered a leg injury playing against Manchester United in September and he had to rest, but in November he was back playing and scoring in the last 5 minutes in the Champions League game against Olympiacos. But when against Chelsea on February 27, Gerrard made an own goal in the League Cup final. During the second half in 2005 as against Milan in the Champions League final, Gerrard not scored at all, but he received the UEFA Club footballer of the Year award.
Gerrard had reportedly moved from Liverpool, but on July 5, 2005 Liverpool reject Chelsea bid and Gerrard also rejected a bid of £ 100,000 during the week. Gerrard signed a new contract for 4 years and he scored 23 goals in 53 appearances during season 2005-2006. In April, Gerrard became Liverpool player who selected the PFA Player of the Year. He scored 2 goals in the 2006 FA Cup final against West Ham. Gerrard became Liverpool players who scored in the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup and Champions League final.
In the 2006-2007 season, Liverpool's Gerrard could not help being defeated Chelsea in the League and the Champions League semi-fnal lost to Milan.
Gerrard suffered a broken leg injury in a Champions League qualifier in August 2007 against Toulouse but 4 days later he returned to play against Chelsea. On October 28, 2007 is the game to 400 for Liverpool when Arsenal. Gerrard also scored in the Champions League against Marseille on December 1. Gerrard was chosen for PFA Team of the Year and became one of the PFA of the Year candidate.
Gerrard to make 100th appearance with the Reds game against Madrid and scored a goal in European club competition on March 10, 2009. On March 22, 2009, Gerrard scored a hat-trick the first time in the Premier League when Aston Villa. On 13 May 2009, Gerrard called the 2009 Football Writers' Association Player of the Year and became the first Liverpool player for 19 years time. In season 2009-2010, Gerrard ended with 12 goals and 9 assists from 49 games.
After the 2009-2010 season, coach Benitez replaced after 6 years of training Hodgson Liverpool. Gerrard played his first game in the 2010-2011 season against Mönchengladbach on August 1, 2010. Gerrard scored his first goal in the 2010-2011 season from the penalty spot in the European League qualifier against Macedonia on September 5 Agautus 2010. Gerrard started his international debut with the English national team against Ukraine on May 31, 2000 then he was called for UEFA Euro 2000 competition and only one appearance as a substitute when against Germany.
Gerrard scored his first international against Germany at the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier in September 2001. In the UEFA Euro 2004, Gerrard became the starter and scored a goal against Switzerland before England were knocked out by Portugal in the quarterfinals.
In 2006 FIFA World Cup tournament, Gerrard playing in the group stage when the fight Triniodad-Tobago and Sweden, but once started defeated Portugal in the quarterfinals. Even so he became England's top scorer in the tournament.
Gerrard became vice-captain when the team against Russia and Croatia at UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying. Gerrard helped England qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and scored 2 goals against Croatia.
In 2010, Terry was replaced by Rio Ferdinand as captain of the team. Due to injury, Gerrard replaced Rio Ferdinand to captain the team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and become experienced players with 80 caps. After the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Gerrard was called 'Golden Generation'. In August 2010, Gerrard scored 2 goals in a friendly against Hungary and he defended the position as team captain for the opening game UEFA Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria.
